Two months from today we will be walking across the graduation stage in the center of Shaurt field moving our tassel from one side of our cap to the other. Our diploma in hand, we will turn and face the next stage of our lives. We have taken all of the classes, completed all of our internships, and applied for jobs (and are hopefully employed); it is clear that so much is changing, but somehow, everything is staying almost exactly the same.
Two months from today, we will no longer be PR students at Hofstra, but public relations professionals out in the real world. Rather than learning in a classroom, we will be learning as we go. As we step off of the stage, we step into a new chapter with a new eagerness to learn and a deep excitement to put our well-earned diploma to work. We are fully aware that the learning never stops in the world of public relations, but the teachers and surroundings simply change. We are stepping into a new classroom, with a new goal, and a new drive. We have everything we need to be the best PR professionals we can be, and with the toss of a cap, we are given the chance to prove ourselves.
It is scary to think that our academic careers have just two months duration left. As PR students we are constantly being told to always be on top of the latest trends. I couldn’t agree more that for PR professionals the learning never stops, and I feel that that’s because the field will always be evolving. Just from a social media standpoint, who knows what will be the latest platform to reach new audiences in 5 or 10 years from now. We will have to learn how to use these new platforms and how to target our audiences appropriately through them. I think Hofstra has done a good job educating PR majors how to adapt to the changes that are going on currently in the field right now and that ability to learn how to adapt will greatly aide us for the future changes we will experience.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the learning never stops. Let's just hope as we enter the career world, that what we have learned so far doesn't fail us! Our internships have given us the chance to learn and experiment, classes have given us the basics and starting platform. I wish us all luck!
ReplyDeleteIt is so scary to think that our college days are over, but I feel like a lot of us are ready. PR is all about experience and we need to get out there to learn more. We will always be students of PR, because there is always something to learn. Never lose that curious college kid.
ReplyDeleteThis post just made me extremely excited. I cannot wait to graduate and learn in the "real world" Truth is that learning definitely does not end after college, but expands in the work world. Not only will we learn work related things, but life experiences we will keep with us forever. And to everyone graduating, Congrats we DID IT!
ReplyDeleteThis post is scary and exciting at the same time. For almost 2 decades we have been students. Now, we no long have that title...something that's never happened in our lives. But finally, we will be able to walk out our front doors and walk into the real world.
ReplyDeleteBut I agree with Melissa, we will always be students of PR because there is always something to learn. Conngrats to us!
This post was great! I think the learning aspect of PR makes it exciting. The evolving technologies will keep us on our toes. We definitely have a huge adjustment in the near future, but I know we will all succeed. We just have to stay positive and everything will fall into place! Congrats all!
